HDC Health & Leisure Walk @ Washington Common & Rowdell | | |
Meet Old London Rd, Washington RH20 3BN, from Washington roundabout drive north on the A24 for 200 yards, turn left and then immediate left again onto the Old London Road. Drive to the far end. A pleasant circular 3.5 mile route which starts at the National Trust’s Washington Common woods before heading towards Washington Village. From there our route takes us along the foot of the downs past Rowdell before heading back along quite lanes to our starting point. Dogs welcome. Refreshments provided.

Park and meet at St George’s Church, Steyning Road, West Grinstead, RH13 8LR (TQ171208). From Horsham (A24), take the B2135 signposted Partridge Green, first right at wooden bungalow. We all start together and then we have a choice of a shorter or longer route. A flat circular 3 or 5 mile walk with far reaching views of the South Downs, interesting buildings and houses along the way. Can be muddy. No dogs, possibility of cattle, horses & sheep. Toilet, honesty box.

Meet in Washington South Downs Way car park (TQ120119). This 6.5 mile route takes us along the South Downs way to Chanctonbury Ring and from there we continue in the direction of Steyning before dropping down to the foot of the Downs through a lovely piece of woodland. When at the foot of the Downs we wend our way back towards Washington observing Wiston House in the distance as we go. The route contains stiles, steep hills and can be muddy. Dogs welcome. Refreshments provided.
